I am curious about your feeling on a subject. When considering men and women... What do you feel is appropriate: (A)Total equality in every way (B)Celebrate the differences I am guessing it is in-between but....Tell me a lil.Here are some examples...But give your own-and your thoughts on them. 1.Is it ok to have an ALL man/woman club(Like at schools...and boys/girls MAY NOT JOIN) 2.Lady reporters in Football locker rooms after games. 3.Lady coaches on football teams. 4.Men coaches and Men reporters in girls locker rooms. 5.How bout women in foxholes(Frontline combat) 6.Your example I am not asking about what laws there are...or what HAS or hasn't happened yet...Just YOUR thoughts. Now...My opinions bounce around a lil.I think it's obvious that 2 people doing the same job deserve the same pay.  

For me... (B)Celebrate the diff I LOVE women because they are SOOOO NOT men !! Women have so many incredible qualities that I do not believe the average man has. I also think MEN were designed to pick up the areas opposite that.Not to the extreme...But...I open doors for women NOT cuz they are weak...But because I feel they are special and I want to honor them with small gestures. 1.I support single sex clubs... 2.I do not like women reporters in locker rooms after games. I am not sure why ..LOL...Obviously...A woman CAN know as much or more than a man when it comes to sports.And women have NO prob covering sports.I think I just don't like the idea of a woman being in such a degrading position. 3.I have ZERO issue with woman coaching football.And after writing all that about women in the locker room..I realize...This is a subject I can use some other thoughts on. 4.I hate the idea of a MAN in a locker room with nekkid girls...I am not going to try to explain..I have a 21 year old daughter...I HATE all MALES...I wont see this one clearly ! 5.Women in foxholes...I fear I am getting myself in trbl.. I don't like the idea. I truly feel men are programmed via DNA to protect women.I feel it would be a distraction to the team...to the point of degrading readiness. I also know other have had women in foxholes and done fine... I know a woman CAN do it...That isn't the question...I am sure many women could do a better job than alot of men. I just have to say right now that I hate men. Not you.. or Tiki cause y'all are always cool but the rest of them can go suck an egg. Other than that I agree with most of what you said.

5.Women in foxholes...I fear I am getting myself in trbl.. My husband and I actually came to an agreement that the only way we think it could really work with females in the infantry is if the units were segregated sexes.

I have participated in raids, convoy security, area security, convoy recons and regular point A to point B convoys. And no, I don't think females should be in the infantry or artillery. With the countries we like to go to war with, women are not respected in the same way they are in the USA. I think it would be a conflict of interests that way. Besides, females are all ready allowed to go into a combat support MOS, and in some cases that's damned near the front lines. I was a MP, and I've been shot at, had indirect fire hit near me, get my arse handed to me in the turret because of harsh terrain (yeah, thank god for kevlars!) and whatever came my way. I enjoyed every bit of it. 

I husband agrees with almost everything studriffic said, I agree on most also, most of them specifically depending on the situation

You mean the guys in my platoon? If so, I was just another one of the "guys" to them. To me my gender didn't matter. Only the uniform that I wore did. I don't think the level of protectiveness was any different for any of us. It was always the whole "you got my back, then I got yours" bit. I would hope it'd be the same all around. The camaraderie was awesome. It's like gender was thrown out the window and forgotten. I did scare a lot of the new guys though. They thought I was a raging b!tch. 

I dunno, the whole women in foxholes thing. My husband agreed with you on saying, as DH quoted, "Yes women can do as good of a job as men and in many cases even better, but it is a natural instinct for men to protect women, therefor getting in the way of the mission that is at hand." I agree but as LM said, I think segregation in that sense would benefit us highly. 

Kappy...Is it your opinion that... The enemy view of women is the ONLY reason it isn't a good idea? Is there a reason you feel is strickly due to gender diff? 

The enemy view is the main reason. Another reason is there should be NO distractions while on the front lines, and quite frankly after so many months in theater your vision is "tainted" if you get my drift.

I think some women can be just fine in combat, some can't. Same with men.

DH used to think the same as you, however since working with women, he looks at them as another co-worker. He said the only time he'd have problems with a female on the front lines is if I worked with him, and we were both on the front line.

If they're screened and deemed non-psychotic and won't cry foul if their feelers are hurt. Most women won't fall into this category though. 3.Lady coaches on football teams. No 4.Men coaches and Men reporters in girls locker rooms. Coaches yes, reporters no 5.How bout women in foxholes(Frontline combat) No 6.Your example Teen girls should play softball, not baseball. Tween girls have no business on the football field, either.

Sure as long as there are equal opportunities for such clubs. 2. No 3. If they can effectively coach better than others applying for the position, sure. 4. No. 5. No.

No but not because they're not qualified. I just don't think a team will accept it and the team would suffer 4.Men coaches and Men reporters in girls locker rooms. Coaches, yes but reporters no. 5.How bout women in foxholes(Frontline combat) No, I don't think women should be there but even as I write that I know there are many qualified women who could do it without flinching so I really have no reason for feeling the way that I do. 

Split decision but leaning towards celebrating the differences. 1- Some clubs should be exclusive. ie, Boy Scouts for Boys, Girl Scouts for girls etc. 2/4- Coaches, yes but reporters no. 3- I just want a good COACH, gender doesn't or shouldn't make a difference IMO. 5. Having served in a Combat with Females I wouldn't hesitate to go again with 90% of them. - I can say the same for the men I've served with too. IMO you should train for and have the ablility to do a job. If you can't NO MATTER THE JOB OR THE GENDER you shouldn't be allowed to do it. IE- if a woman has the ability to make it through SEAL training then she should go for it. But NOT EVERYONE can- including most males. JMO
